Kiku-no-yu & Yamanaka-za

Since its discovery, " Kiku-no-Yu " has been loved by people for 1300 years.  You can enjoy the popular "Ashi-yu  (footbath)" and traditional entertainment " Yamanakaza Shiki-no-mai " by Yamanaka geisha at the theater " Yamanaka-za " ( to the right of the building )

Basho-no-Yakata

Basho-no-Yakata

This museum introduces the relation between Basho and Yamanaka hot spring.  The building was used as a hotel in the Meiji period, letting you feel the nostalgic atmosphere of past times.  Basho's personal belongings and famous traditional crafts "Yamanaka-shikkis" are displayed there.  Japanese tea is served in a traditional Japanese style room.

Ayatori Bridge

Ayatori Bridge

This S-shaped bridge was designed by Teshigawara Hiroshi, the third head of Karyu-Sougetsuryu. It is located in the middle of Kakusenkei and provides many beautiful views, such as a fantastic light up in the evening, wonderful cherry blossoms in spring, and fireflies in summer.

Kakusenkei Kawadoko (riverbed)

Kakusenkei Kawadoko

The area is surrounded by beautiful bright green between April and October. "Kakusenkei Kawadoko (riverbed)" makes an appearance near Ayatori Bridge. Listening to the sound of the stream and birds singing, you can have "Cool Green Tea Shiruko" and "Kawadoko Rollcake" produced by the famous chef Michiba Rokusaburo.

Kohrogi Bridge

Kohrogi Bridge

A fifteen-minute walk from Ayatori Bridge upstream. Elegant Kohrogi Bridge is of an all-cypress construction, and represents the changing seasons of Yamanaka. This is one of the most famous scenic spots where many tourists visit.

 

It's a 12-minute walk from Tawaraya via Yuge Kaido.
Kokutani Bridge

Kokutani Bridge

Kokutani Bridge, the bridge over the downstream section of Kakusenkei, is one of the three bridges of Yamanaka Onsen. Matsuo Basho who praised the hot spring of Yamanaka composed the haiku "Here is the place of pleasure of trip" around this tasteful Kokutani Bridge.

Yuge Kaido (Street going through the hot spring village)

Yuge Kaido

The street going from Kohrogi Bridge to the Soyu (public bathhouse) "Kiku-no-Yu" is called Yuge-kaido. Along this street, there are restaurants, souvenir shops, Yamanaka-nuri shops, and Kutani-yaki shops. This tradtional and cultural area is always bustling with tourists.
